About us

Marine Rescue Dampier, formally known as West Pilbara Volunteer Sea Search and Rescue has been supporting and educating boaters in and around the Dampier area since its establishment in 1978. MRD is a DFES-approved volunteer marine rescue organisation providing marine rescue to the community in the West Pilbara region. Marine Rescue Dampier utilises two purpose built rescue vessels equipped with the very latest in search and rescue equipment and technologies. We work with government agencies, WA Police and private entities to enact response plans in the events of marine emergencies. Please note that Marine Rescue Dampier has no obligation to recover property and in some instances only render assistance to individuals.

About us

One of the biggest challenges we face is the education and awareness in the principles of safe boating and survival at sea. Ensuring you undertake safe and responsible boating is the biggest contribution you can make. Having the right equipment, knowing how to use it and using it in the right way is the main objective and while this is broad, as a skipper this is your responsibility to keep those on your vessel safe. If you end up in the ocean due to a boating mishap for any reason, you'll need everything in your favour for us to find you safely.

Should you be provided assistance by Marine Rescue Dampier, it is appreciated that you will make a financial contribution to the ongoing operation of the group. A rescue operation includes fuel, maintenance, wear and tear as well as team member's time which may have involved stepping out of their full time jobs.
